The Lighted Hills
I made this in April of 2009. One late afternoon in June, a day of rapidly changing weather--rain, sun, clouds, wind, rain, sun, etc., I was sitting on the couch looking out toward Buck Mountain, across the road and beyond our pond in the old pasture and was jolted by what I saw: it was exactly this image. The line of cloud-dark sky parallel to the earth, with a section of light that followed the shape of the hill. And, I can tell you, beginner that I am, that this was not in my conscious mind when I made this piece—though the line of the hill is exactly the line that I see out this window every day of my life. I am slowly learning how art gets made. This is another lesson.
